There is no score music within the scripted scenes of Spring Forward, only in the six interstitial cine-poems dividing them, and under the film’s opening and closing credits as well. These moments had to be deeply personal so I reached out to my very dear friends Hahn Rowe and Mark Mulcahy, whose work in their various projects (Hugo Largo, Miracle Legion, Polaris) has inspired me for decades. Hahn recorded many of his pieces as I sat in his basement with him watching the little pieces on his computer. Mark let me sit in on his session for the closing track as well in a studio in Red Hook, Brooklyn. The song was from many he offered, all of them beautiful.
